I haven't added anything recently so here's a collection of what I've been up to. I have returned to life drawing (or painting) after a break which lasted years! My efforts are recorded below. I have also included some work that I have in progress and a number of sketches.

Sketchbook, Bempton Cliffs, study 2. Bempton Cliffs is a RSPB reserve with a large Gannet colony and the occasional Puffin, not there that day!

Sketchbook, Devon, flowers (name escapes me) study.

Sketchbook, Devon beach, study.

My pochade box, Nostell Priory, West Yorkshire and the sketch I completed, below. Trying to do this more to improve my painting and speed. Takes a little getting used too. As I have found, there are 3 types of audience when you are stood there - the people who pretend your not there (very British), the people who talk to you and offer their opinion and those hang around behind you, watching, but not saying a word!

Sandsend Breakwaters in the Sunshine, Oil on Board, 16"x8".
Showing at: Trattles & Geall Fine Arts, Whitby.

Painted these breakwaters a few times now (and no doubt will again) as there is a lot going on in them. Waves building and breaking, reflections, colours, light, movement.

I have started to focus on coastal scenes more recently, drawn to where moving water meets seemingly immovable objects. Trying to get that sense of energy, changing colours, depth, reflections and weather is the challenge.

White water coastline, 10" x 10", oil on board.

I have a lot of images of this kind. I am attracted to the colours, light, movement and the sheer energy of water.
Sandsend in the wet, oil on board. Private collection.

A smashing if wet day. The Coastguard in their bad weather kit had just closed the road on the seafront, what you don't see is the lone police officer that has closed the other end...stood there, drenched!
